There are so many things on my business bucket list. In my dreams, I see a letterpress and paper making studio, with a cozy spot to meet and discuss projects with clients, and maybe even a small retail space. My husband could quit his 9 to 5 and come to work in the studio managing tech, marketing, and customer support. Our kids could play and do their homework in the corner, or help me out on the presses. These are my dreams and hopes for the future, and all of the things I’m working towards today. I’m not there yet, and there are a lot of things that need to happen before I’ll be in that place, but this shoot felt like a few steps in the right direction.
I’ve always been attracted to the fine art style, and this shoot tugged at my heartstrings from the beginning. From the initial conversation, I envisioned handmade paper, wispy calligraphy, vintage postage, and vellum. Layers and layers of light texture, color, and line. Initial sketches evolved into a full suite, including the main invitation, details card, response card, save the date, vellum overlay, and their accompanying envelopes.
I wanted the main invitation to be timeless and elegant. A more traditional layout was enhanced with flowing spot calligraphy, our Fleur crest, and light serif type. The details card followed suit, with a venue detail illustration at the top. Wording on our response card played into the opulence and delicacy. The save the date included a full illustration of Chateau Cocomar, and all envelopes included matching calligraphy, envelope liners, and vintage postage. The blush tones of the envelopes were reflected in the printed details on the cards.
In addition to stationery, we also provided menus, place cards, vows, and a fabric banner for this shoot. Menus were printed on the same handmade paper from the stationery, and I hand-sew the little drawstring bag place cards, and hand painted names on them to match the fabric banner. Vows were done in a walnut ink to match the envelope calligraphy. Detail work is my absolute favorite, and the pieces I sent for this shoot really hold a place in my heart.
